Steve Brown - A Short Biography

I was born in April 1955 in Dallas, Texas, and have lived in the Dallas area most of my life.  I graduated from an area high school and received an undergraduate degree in accounting from Southern Methodist University in 1977.  Since graduating from college, I have worked for various companies in the Dallas area in field of accounting and finance.

My Dad was raised in the Baptist church and, while growing up, my sister and I attended with him.  I left the Baptist church while I was in high school and began attending a Methodist church.  I only switched to the Methodist church because I had a number of friends from high school who also attended.  While at the Methodist church, I was exposed to teaching from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) since the youth director at the church was a DTS student.  During my college years I left the Methodist church and began attending a Bible Church, Believers Chapel, that was founded by faculty members and others associated with DTS.  There I met my wife, who also attended SMU, and we married in 1978.  My wife and I continued attending Bible Churches until 1984, when we became dissatisfied with Bible Church doctrine and what it was producing in our lives.  After attending various charismatic meetings and Church on the Rock in Rockwall, Texas, we came to Water of Life Church in 1985.

When we came to Water of Life, God began to work in our lives in ways that we could not comprehend.  I had no clue what it meant to seek God or to have God involved in my life.  I have begun to realize how the religious traditions and doctrines I served for so many years oppose the calling of God on my life and His work in my life.  Thank God for the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the power of God unto salvation.  It is the gospel that delivers us from everything that opposes the blessings of God in our lives.
